Soko Z.I. continues the tradition of the Soko Mostar company, which produced more than 1,000 airplanes and 600 helicopters over 30 years of active service. Along with production of proprietary types, Soko Mostar built aircraft parts, including whole hull sections for airplanes of the most significant world manufacturers of the time: Aerospatiale, Airbus, Alenia, Boeing, De Havilland, Deutsche Airbus, Dornier, Embraer, Eurocopter, IAI Malkam, Latecoere, Marcel Dassault, MBB, MDD, Socea-Sogerma, UAPK (Tupolev, Illyushin).
